“A visit to the museum is a search for beauty, truth, and meaning in our lives. Go to museums as often as you can.”
-Malra Kalman
The children of Class 1 of Pearl School, Thumama Campus visited the Qatar National Museum on three different days section wise. Class 1 C on 10th Oct, 2019, Class 1 B on 14th Oct, 2019 and Class 1 A on 15th Oct, 2019. Qatar National Museum, was designed by architect Jean Nouvel who got his inspiration from the desert rose crystal, which can be found in Qatar.
A guide took us on a tour of the museum where we went through a loop of galleries that addressed three major, interrelated themes. The galleries are loosely arranged in chronological order, beginning with exhibitions on the natural history of the desert and the Persian Gulf, artefacts from Bedouin culture, historical exhibitions on the tribal wars, the establishment of the Qatari state, and finally the discovery of oil to the present. The displays and installations that explore these themes present audiovisual displays with carefully selected treasures from the museum’s collections.
Apart from these, the children visited the informative play zones, coloured the desert rose picture and also did a matching and colouring activity on whales. They were amused and excited but at the same time gathered knowledge through this educational field trip to Qatar National Museum which is named as one of the World’s Greatest Places to Visit in 2019, citing the integration of “immersive video screens and dioramas” into Jean Nouvel’s architectural design by Time Magazine
